“The person who goes to the gym every single day regardless of how they feel will always beat the person who goes to the gym when they feel like going to the gym.”
What’s your favourite thing about competing?
The sense of adrenaline or buzz and becoming entranced when I see someone achieve a goal they have been striving for, or experience the goal accomplishment myself.
Who is your role model and why?
Lionel Sanders, although he is not a nutri-grain ironman, he is still a 4x ironman champion, world champion and has 29 half ironman wins (triathlon). I really enjoy watching Lionel’s videos on YouTube, and it has made me a long-time supporter. His work ethic and training methods really inspire me to improve.
What inspires you to be your best?
The people around me who support and encourage me.
Walk us through your routine of getting ‘in the zone’ before a major event / race.
Before a major event, I listen to music and watch the surf. I watch a few races before to structure my game plan. I meditate on the line and during marshalling. Right before I race I get the blood flowing through my muscles by flicking and slapping my arms, legs and lats.
To date, what’s your career highlight?
5th in the Open Victorian Double ski final, with my brother. Although it wasn’t the biggest achievement, I was super happy to cross the line in the top 5 with my brother who has pushed me throughout my life to always improve and give my all.
Going into this season, what’s your number one goal?
Place top 3 in the Victorian Open Ironman.
It’s the night before a big competition... what’s your must-have meal?
Bolognese, for sure. Any type of pasta, but the Bolognese definitely has to be homemade by Mum or Dad.
What’s your favourite song to listen to before competing or during training?
Mr Brightside by The Killers.
What makes Engine products different from other gear out on the market?
The engine products are consistent and all products throughout the stock range are at a high standard. There is no real weak point in engine products, I find that they are all made for performance at the elite level.
What’s your crucial Engine product(s) and why?
The Club cut bathers, are my favourite. I wear them every morning for swimming and they never fail me. Also, there is a wide variety of colours I can chose from so I can wear whatever colour I want, whenever I want.
Backpack Pro - Love the range of colours and the multiple compartments.
Weapon goggles - perfect for everyday training.
