How do you stay motivated and push yourself in training?
I always aim to do 1% better at each training session because I know if I can continuously improve, even just a little bit, I'll reach my longer term goals.
Many athletes have pre-game rituals that help them get into the zone. What are some of your personal pre-game rituals or routines that you believe help you get in the zone before hitting the beach or pool?
I focus directly on my race and my race plan - running it through my mind. Then right before my race I de-stress by checking and adjusting my gear.
Reflecting on your career so far, what would you consider as the most memorable or defining moment?
Winning gold at Vic State Short Course in the 50m, 100m and 200m Freestyle.
Are there any specific achievements or milestones that you are particularly proud of and that you feel have significantly impacted your journey as an athlete?
Winning the Jim Wall Iron and the Vic State Iron title in the same season proved to myself I had the ability to be successful in the surf, but then winning Vic State gold in the pool really showed me I had the potential to go much further in both disciplines.
Beyond your athletic pursuits, do you have any hobbies or passions that might surprise people?
I played flute in the school concert band, and was privileged enough to perform several times on stage at Hamer Hall in Melbourne.
How do you balance your intense training and competition schedule with personal interests outside of your sport?
I have a pretty full timetable, but having it written down, and knowing exactly what's on for each day really helps me. Having a great support team around me is also critical - mum, dad and my coaches.
