How do you stay motivated and push yourself in training?

I honestly just love the grind of training and racing. I love the day to day process of working towards the goals I set for myself and those goals motivate me to push myself everyday.

Many athletes have pre-game rituals that help them get into the zone. What are some of your personal pre-game rituals or routines that you believe help you get in the zone before hitting the beach or pool?

I always like to take the time to feel out my body before racing and that always starts with a little rolling and mobility routine I run through. And I have to be wet before I start a race. Even if it’s cold, I like jumping under the water before going to the line.

Reflecting on your career so far, what would you consider as the most memorable or defining moment?

I think my most defining moment has come from not one particular moment but seeing my progress over years of hard work, that has helped motivate me to become the athlete I am now. I remember the cold winter days in Victoria when I was far from the best athlete but just enjoyed spending each day in the water working to better myself.

Are there any specific achievements or milestones that you are particularly proud of and that you feel have significantly impacted your journey as an athlete?

I think the most recent Aussies as a whole. I spent the few weeks beforehand and week of Aussies quite sick, but knew the work I had put in throughout the year so continued focusing on the process. I ended up coming away with making the Open Iron Final and winning the Board Relay and Taplin with the Burleigh boys.

Beyond your athletic pursuits, do you have any hobbies or passions that might surprise people?

Not too surprising but I enjoy surfing and have pretty recently taken up golf which I’m kinda addicted to now.

How do you balance your intense training and competition schedule with personal interests outside of your sport?
I think the best way to balance training and life outside of sport is just taking the time to relax and do the things I enjoy doing throughout the day. As the training schedule is pretty full on, it becomes a routine, which I find makes it easier to maintain.

What are your top 3 ENGINE products (either for racing or training)?
The weapon goggles for training and racing as they’re super comfortable and reliable. Iron Jammer 3’s for racing, makes me feel fast and I know when I put them on it’s time to race. And the shred skins for training. They’re super comfortable, look great, and last forever!
