George Wenman
How do you stay motivated and push yourself in training?
I stay motivated by knowing that every hard training session brings me closer to my goals and dreams. Additionally, the physical and mental benefits of training keep me fit, healthy, and driven.
Many athletes have pre-game rituals that help them get into the zone. What are some of your personal pre-game rituals or routines that you believe help you get in the zone before hitting the beach or pool?
Music is essential for me. I always walk down to the beach listening to music, wearing headphones to get in the zone.
Reflecting on your career so far, what would you consider as the most memorable or defining moment?
I’m particularly proud of making the Junior Black Fins, placing 2nd in the U19 Iron at NZ Nationals, and placing second in the NZ Open Ski Race against some of the fastest kayakers and surf ski athletes.
I run my own detailing business and have also started a media agency with my best friend.
I see surf sports as one of my interests, so it's easy to balance with other hobbies and work. Training and racing don’t feel like chores to me; that’s why I enjoy them so much.
I love the Iron Jammers for racing and training, the Engine Weapon Goggles for both pool and ocean, and the Engine Running Shorts—they’re so comfortable I never want to take them off!
