Brielle Cooper
How do you stay motivated and push yourself in training?
I stay motivated by breaking down my goals into short term and long term goals. I also believe in surrounding yourself with great teammates to help keep each other motivated.
Many athletes have pre-game rituals that help them get into the zone. What are some of your personal pre-game rituals or routines that you believe help you get in the zone before hitting the beach or pool?
My favourite pre race ritual is to go for a swim at the beach or the pool and eat a nice big breakfast like avocado on toast. I also like to surround myself with people who understand my nerves and help me feel excited and positive about racing.
Reflecting on your career so far, what would you consider as the most memorable or defining moment?
My most defining career moment would be being the youngest ever female to win an Ironwoman series but some of my most special memories have come from racing last season. I am now a teacher as well as an Ironwoman and last year some of my students came down to watch the Ironwoman series with 'Miss Cooper' posters. This really reminded me that my love for this sport and the impact it has upon young people around the country is very special. I will remember those moments forever.
Are there any specific achievements or milestones that you are particularly proud of and that you feel have significantly impacted your journey as an athlete?
Qualifying for the Ironwoman series was incredibly special for myself and my family and something I am incredibly proud of. I never thought I would ever stand on the podium let alone win a series so each of those moments throughout my career have been very special. The friends I have made and the people I have met have also significantly effected my career. I feel very lucky to have met my partner and life long friends being involved in this sport.
Beyond your athletic pursuits, do you have any hobbies or passions that might surprise people?
Beyond sport I am a primary teacher and LOVE working with kids. I also love going camping, spending time with my friends, family and my beautiful puppy Isla.
How do you balance your intense training and competition schedule with personal interests outside of your sport?
Routine is the key to balancing our crazy schedules. I make the time each week to work out my training, rest time, work schedule and time for family and friends each week as I believe in order to succeed you need to have a full cup mentally as well as physically. I find meal prepping, planning my outfits and training clothes for the week and getting to bed early each nights all help me to be able to work and train fulltime.
What are your top 3 ENGINE products (either for racing or training)?
Shredskin racer, weapon goggles and the classic puffer jacket
