CATCHING UP W JESSE COLEMAN
April was a busy month for all our EngineAthletes but in particular for Australia's newest butterfly powerhouse; Jesse Coleman. For anyone watching at home or in the stands at Aussie Age Champs there's no denying Coleman's bright future in the sport. Keep on reading for his experience at the meet.
How did you get involved in the sport?
I started swimming in 2016 following my brother into the sport. He fast became successful in swimming not long after starting and this inspired me to begin. He showed me the way through the swimming world and got me started.
What’s your favourite part about competing?
Stepping up behind the blocks knowing that I’m ready and that I’ve done the training and all the preparation for this.
Going into Nationals what were you hoping to achieve?
I was hoping to put down some solid swims and really fine tune the skills as nationals is one of the last chances at high level, quality racing before Trials in June.
What were you most excited to experience at nationals?
Racing against the best of the best in Australia is always a heap of fun and is good to change up the environment from your everyday training.
Coming up the ranks, what’s one piece of advice you wish someone would have shared with you?
Be honest with yourself. The training grounds is where all the magic happens so you can’t cut corners there, otherwise come race day, you’re missing all the small things. So being honest with yourself is one I have really found helpful.
What’s next for you?
Next up is the World Championship Trials in June. This is the main domestic meet of the year where teams will be picked to go away to the World Champs in Japan, along with other teams to represent Australia at other major international meets.
