From Pool to Podium: How to Care for Your Swimwear and Make It Last

Whether you're a competitive swimmer working through early-morning sets or a casual swimmer, one thing is universal: your swimwear takes a beating. At ENGINE, we design our suits for performance and durability - but even the best gear needs proper care to go the distance.

Here’s how to keep your ENGINE swimwear in peak condition, session after session.

1. Rinse Immediately After Use

Chlorine, saltwater, sunscreen, and sweat -  your suit soaks it all in. After every swim, rinse it thoroughly in cold water. This simple step helps prevent fabric breakdown and colour fading caused by chemical exposure.

Pro Tip: Try to not wait until you get home. A quick rinse in the shower at the pool or beach can make a big difference.

2. Wash Gently (Never in the Machine)

Machine washing might be fast, but it’s a fast track to ruining your suit. Avoid harsh soaps that can degrade fabric elasticity. It's best to rinse throroughly with cold water.

Avoid: Bleach, fabric softeners, and spin cycles. They're not your suit’s friends.

3. Skip the Dryer

Heat is the enemy of technical swimwear. Air dry your suit flat in a shaded area, away from direct sunlight. Hanging it can stretch the fibres, and UV exposure can weaken colours and material integrity.

Pro Tip: Avoid drying on metal racks or railings, which can leave rust marks or damage the fabric.

4. Rotate Your Suits

If you're swimming daily, invest in more than one suit. Rotating between a couple of ENGINE pieces gives each suit time to fully dry and rest - extending their lifespan considerably.

5. Store It Right

After drying, store your suit in a breathable mesh bag or drawer - never in a sealed plastic bag or your wet towel. Mold, mildew, and odour can develop quickly when moisture is trapped.

Built to Perform, Designed to Last

At ENGINE, our swimwear is made with high-performance fabrics that are chlorine-resistant and built for speed. But even elite gear benefits from care and attention. Treat your suit right, and it’ll deliver the same energy and performance you bring to the water - from your first lap to the finish line.
