Where It All Started
My journey started at West Beach Surf Life Saving Club, where I first got involved through nippers. At the beginning, it was simply about being at the beach, having fun with friends and learning to feel confident in the ocean. Before long, I became drawn to the competitive side of surf lifesaving, particularly board and iron racing then not long after, ski racing. I loved the challenge of reading the conditions, pushing myself physically and constantly trying to improve. That early enjoyment quickly grew into a real passion for racing and set the foundation for everything I have achieved in the sport since.
The Journey Nobody Sees
Coming from South Australia, surf sport is not as big or widely recognised as it is in other states. With fewer athletes my age, I often had to train and race against older competitors. The long winter sessions on my own, often with numb hands and feet, made me tougher and more independent. Having fewer opportunities also kept me hungry and made me determined to prove that being from SA did not have to limit what I could achieve.
Your Greatest Moments
Winning the U17 Coolangatta Gold, and the U17 Australian single ski title in the same year and a U19 Australian double ski title are some of my proudest moments in surf. I’m also proud of my kayaking achievements, particularly becoming an 5x Australian representative.
Beyond the Sport
Outside of racing, I study mechanical engineering at university. I also enjoy 4wd, camping and surfing. They give me a chance to switch off from training, spend time outdoors and do something without the pressure of competition.
