Aussies 2024 Wrap Up
Aussies on the Sunshine Coast lived up to the hype and then some!
For nine whole days (April 13th-21st), Maroochydore, Alexandra Headland, Mooloolaba, and Coolum beaches went off with insane surf battles, awesome teamwork, and some seriously epic coastal competition. Over 8,000 lifesavers went head-to-head in more than 480 beach and ocean events.
Engine-sponsored athletes crushed it throughout the comp. Young gun Raphael Short (U13 Maroochydore) smoked the U13 Male Surf Race, while Stanley Jarrott (U14/15 Engine Athlete) teamed up with his Maroochydore crew to win the Cameron Relay. Big shout out to Charlotte Bowmer (U14/15 Engine Athlete) who led her team to victory in the U14/15 Female Cameron Relay also.
The Open Division was no different for Engine Athletes. Zach Morris (Engine Athlete & Nutri-Grain Ironman) powered Northcliffe to their first ever gold medal in the brutal 2km Beach Run. Jemma Smith and Mitchell Trim (Engine Athletes) threw down an epic fight in the Mixed Double Ski final, showing off some serious skills.
It wasn't just about teams though. Kaitlin Rees (U17) snagged a double gold in the Ironwoman and Board finals, proving she's a total force to be reckoned with. Georgia Miller (Northcliffe) bounced back from missing the comp last year by grabbing gold in the Double Ski – what a comeback!
Tiarnee Massie and Zoe Longhurst ruled the Open Female Board Rescue, while Lana Rogers and Kendrick Louis took home the Open Ironwoman and Ironman titles, respectively.
Aussies is more than just winning and losing. It is a massive celebration of surf lifesaving as a whole – a way to discover future champions and honor the incredible dedication of our lifesavers, their pursuits across our beaches. Huge congrats to all the athletes, volunteers, and organisers who made this event what it was!
We can't wait for the next Aussies and all that it has in store.
