How do you stay motivated and push yourself in training?
I thrive on competition. Thinking about my opponents and knowing that every session gives me an edge pushes me to go harder in training.
Many athletes have pre-game rituals that help them get into the zone. What are some of your personal pre-game rituals or routines that you believe help you get in the zone before hitting the beach or pool?
On my walk to the start line, I always pick up something that catches my eye for example a stick, a rock, or even a piece of rubbish. I carry it with me and then dig it into the sand before I set up my blocks. It’s my way of grounding myself and marking that moment before the race begins.
Reflecting on your career so far, what would you consider as the most memorable or defining moment?
My most defining moment was definitely becoming the 2024 youth world beach Sprint champion. I had a terrible start and even stumbled but I found something within me to keep pushing and find another gear. It came right down to the last step. that race really showed me how much fight I had in me.
Are there any specific achievements or milestones that you are particularly proud of and that you feel have significantly impacted your journey as an athlete?
The biggest milestone for me was getting on that Aussies podium in 2024, finishing third in the under 17 Beach sprints. I’ve been chasing that since I was a kid, so to finally pull it off felt unreal.
Beyond your athletic pursuits, do you have any hobbies or passions that might surprise people?
I play rugby league, and I love the adrenaline of it. It’s Nice change from surf lifesaving too, because that can feel pretty individual sometimes. In league, you’ve got a team that will go into battle for you – literally.
How do you balance your intense training and competition schedule with personal interests outside of your sport?
At the end of the day, training is just an hour or two out of the day. The rest is yours, so I try to use that time to fit in the things I enjoy outside of the sport. That’s what keeps it all balanced for me.
